Lindsey Graham and Missed Opportunities
On July 12th Lindsey Graham died suddenly.
Graham, a Senator from Georgia, was one of the most enthusiastic of Trump's toadies. Once it became clear Trump would secure the Republican nomination in 2016, any concerns about character were shelved and replaced with a zeal to impress the alpha dog. That extended to Trump's "Stop the Steal" push to reverse the results of the 2020 elections. Graham was willing to go further than most, stepping over the line to phone Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in the hopes of finding ballots to invalidate. In 2023 a Grand Jury recommended Graham be charged for his role. As with nearly every other participant in Stop the Steal the 2024 election ended all hopes that the criminals would be held to account.
Graham now becomes the first major player in the Stop the Steal movement to die before there was any hope of holding him to account
It's tempting to say that Graham was finally held into account for his misdeeds but death is an equalizer not a judge.
Fitting that Lindsey Graham died because he prioritized going on Meet the Press over going to the doctor.

Irony is not justice.
I'll go further. With the constitutional order hanging on by a thread, any hope of restoring it rests on bringing the criminals who tried to steal an election to account through the legal system. Trials. Convictions.
There's a reason that former Nazi officers were still being charged with crimes well into their 90s.
Lindsey Graham ultimately escaped justice, and with him a bit of the chance to save this country.
